An AED is the only effective treatment for restoring a regular heart rhythm during sudden cardiac arrest and is an easy to operate tool for someone with no medical background.
Upon pressing the shock button, the AED delivers a multi-pulse biphasic waveform which means successful defibrillation only requires about 1/3 of the energy which would be needed using a monophasic pulse.
